Shrimp Summer Roll (Step By Step)

Image
Shrimp Summer Roll March 6, Tuesday It's a typical cafe day. One of the items in our special menu was shrimp summer roll. Summer roll ( or called Gỏi cuốn ), is a Vietnamese delicacy consist of vegetables, prawns, and other wrapped in a rice wrap. Step 1: Gather all the ingredients needed for your roll. Cook noodles for about 10 minutes until (vermicelli or soba noodles) al dente (tender), then place it in ice water so noodles won't stick together when using in a later time.  Cut lettuce in half and julienne the carrot and cucumber. Step 2: Soak the rice noodle Step 3: Making the roll Put the shrimp first, so once it's rolled, the shrimp will be seen. It'll looks pretty when plating. Then add noodles, cucumber, carrot, cilantro.   Step 4: Roll First, fold the sides then begin to roll, keep it tight. Use your pinky to keep the vegetables from falling off while rolling it. Pine Tree Cafe

Pine Tree Cafe December 11, 2017 On a gloomy Monday morning, 3 finals in one day but something was brightly shining. LUNCH TIME! Between the finals, my friends and I decided to go out and eat. We decided to check out Pine Tree cafe, I've never eaten here before so I wanted to see what they have. That day it was lunch time, very busy and many people came to eat such as locals and tourists altogether. By the way, that guy with the hat right infront was really cute. 😁 Haha just letting out there. The wait time for our food wasn't that long. For the 5 of us, it took about 10 minutes or less. So if you are busy and have no time to wait, come check this place out. I strongly recommend. I ordered Fried Poke with furikake and spicy Aioli. It was really good and enough to fill my stomach. We ordered Fried Poke, Yoshi(?) Burger, Garlic Chicken, and Loco Moco. Alice ordered the burger and she said it was delicious. Ayden and Thomas got...

Patricio's Taqueria

Image
Patricio's Taqueria Patricio's Mexican Taqueria is located in Kukio at Hulikoa Dr, next to Kona Hawaiian Coffee and Pine Tree Cafe. (Pc- someone) It all started with California natives Rena Grimaldo and Patrick Mitchell, moved to Kailua-Kona in 2004. They had a dream and wanted to open a restaurant that serves authentic Mexican cuisine. In addition, the idea to make their food affordable where locals and visitors would enjoy. With this as their mission, I can honestly say that they're doing a great job maintaining the authenticity. The interior of the restaurant has a Baja vibe and feels like I am at an authentic mom & pop Mexican restaurant. Check out their website, I added the link below http://www.patriciostaqueria.com Their menu was located and easily seen once you walk in the restaurant. Each dish was explained in details. I ordered a fish taco ( Tacos De Pescado Fish Tacos Baja Style ) The fish was fried in their house made Modelo b...

Poi Balls

Image
Poi Balls On Saturday, I went to the other side of Kona, which is Hilo. Stopped by at the Tokunaga Store to purchase fishing supplies when I saw the Food truck that sells poi balls was parked at the parking lot. I knew that I wanted so I went and bought some. Fun fact for me is that I don't usually eat poi, I never do. Even if it's offered, I don't really choose to eat it. And I know a lot of people will curse why I don't eat poi and blah blah. Dude! Girl! Person! I have a choice on what I eat. I am getting sidetracked.. Let’s continue with the poi balls. They offered Poi  Balls and Haupia Balls. The price for the balls are good, not overpriced. Poi Balls Haupia Balls I got a fresh batch so it was warm and crunchy. I like it. It would have been great with a sweet dip.. Now based in taste, the poi balls didn’t have much, it was breaded too much. On the other hand, the Haupia Balls were flavorful and good. I really liked it, I wish I bought more of ...

Red Barn

Image
Red Barn On October 26, 2017, I had the opportunity to meet the owners, Will and his wife. They talked to us about the culinary industry and how it brings so much joy. Yes it's very difficult, but it's all worth it when you are getting paid for what you love doing. Right? They are usually available at the Waimea Farmers Market, every Wednesday and Saturday. If you're out there, stop by and try their ono sandwiches. The picture above is their typical menu. Its pretty specific and lists the ingredients for each of their sandwiches. Plus they love to incorporate local products, so yes it's always great when we're eating locally grown foods. On this platter, I have the Frenchman, Purple Pig Sandwich, and the Green Garden. Frenchman : Alii & cremini mushrooms, beefy onions, gruyere, and truffle oil Purple Pig : Pulled pork, smoked gouda, lomi tomato, and sweet taro bread The Green Garden : Big Island Avocado, kale, goat cheese with tarragon s...

Hey!      My name is Larrianne Daine Lagpacan but that's too long and most people say it incorrectly, just call me Daine which is very simple and easy. You are probably wondering what this blog is about and why I am doing this. Well, I’ll  tell if you continue to read this introduction. In advance, thank you for keeping your word. I know you're reading. 😆😆😆      I am currently a culinary arts student at Palamanui , Hawaii community college. This industry is difficult and a rigorous path but I'm always up for a challenge.  I have always been passionate about cooking ever since I was young and eating is part of my survival. Like everyone needs to eat to be alive. Food is a source of happiness and satisfies the purpose of life. I love the adrenaline I get when I cook and when people taste and enjoy the meals is very rewarding. There's this hype I feel when I'm in the kitchen and I can't express in ...
